MIGNEX: aligning migration management and the migration-development nexus

MIGNEX (Aligning Migration Management and the Migration- Development Nexus) is a five-year European Commission-funded project aiming to forge new connections between two policy fields: how migration is regulated, and how migration and development affect each other.

Running from 2018 – 2024, MIGNEX will undertake research structured around ten work packages across 26 research areas in 10 countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The project comprises a global consortium of nine institutions.

MIGNEX is driven by one overarching objective: contribute to more effective and coherent migration management through evidence-based understanding of the linkages between development and migration. That is, we want to show how development processes affect migration and how migration processes affect development. The motivation lies in the promise of better policies. By better policies we mean policies that achieve their stated objectives, pull in the same direction, and engage with conflicts of interest in a meaningful way.

ODI is leading the quantitative data collection for the project covering 12,500 respondents and contributing to several parts of the analysis. We are also leading on the impact maximisation of research findings and external communications.

Funding from the project comes from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme.
